About IELTS

Required IELTS Score

The bands used to determine IELTS test scores range from 0 to 9, with the lowest performing candidates receiving an O and the highest performing candidates receiving a score of 9.

A score of 6 is considered competent and tends to be the lowest requirement. A candidate must pass the test in each of the four categories indicated above in order to receive a passing score.

IELTS Test Components

With having 4 components, the test has a duration of 2 hours and 45 minutes to do.

Reading

There are 40 questions on the IELTS Reading test. Each question that is correctly answered earns one mark. As a result, 40 is the highest score you can obtain. On the basis of this score, a band score between Band 1 and Band 9 is subsequently given.

Writing

Speaking

For each of the four criteria areas—Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation—speaking examiners provide a band score. These four are given equal weight. The test consists of three sections and is structured like an interview.
