Express Entry: IRCC invites 5,000 Canadian Experience Class candidates

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has issued invitations to apply (ITAs) for the most recent Express Entry lottery.

The department held a Canadian Experience Class (CEC)-only draw, inviting 5,000 candidates.
Candidates were needed to have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 510.

Today’s draw was the ninth in an already hectic month for Express Entry. In total, IRCC issued 25,125 ITAs in July.

This month’s drawings have alternated between program-specific draws, such as the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) and the Provincial Nominee Programme (PNP), and category-based selection draws.

In category-based drawings, applicants with French language competency received the majority of ITAs, totaling 5,000 across two draws. IRCC also granted 3,750 ITAs to healthcare applicants on July 5 and 1,800 to trade occupation candidates on July 4.

A large number of ITAs have also been given through program-specific drawings. As of July 31, the IRCC has invited 11,300 Canadian Experience Class candidates and 3,275 PNP aspirants. Candidates for both programs frequently live and work in Canada as temporary residents. The resumption of program-specific drawings on May 30, following a year without them, is consistent with IRCC’s previously declared desire to organize additional domestic draws.

In March of this year, the department announced a new aim of lowering and stabilizing the number of temporary residents in Canada while fulfilling its permanent resident targets as defined in the Immigration Levels Plan.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is the applicant management system for the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

These are three of Canada’s most popular economic immigration schemes. They all employ the Comprehensive Ranking System to assess candidates based on human capital characteristics such as age, education, occupation, language skills, and job experience.

Each component is awarded a score, which adds up to a candidate’s overall CRS score. Based on these human capital variables, they are expected to contribute to Canada’s workforce and demographics. The better the score, the more likely they are to be granted an ITA.

Express Entry is intended to expedite processing for highly competent individuals. The department has published
