British Columbia and Manitoba invite provincial nominees

This week, British Columbia and Manitoba invited provincial nominees to participate in their respective Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).

Together, the provinces invited over 400 candidates from streams geared for in-demand and talented professionals seeking to reside in their respective areas.

Nominees were chosen from streams that targeted high-demand workers and overseas graduates in their respective provinces.

British Columbia (BC)

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) sent out at least 88 invitations to apply for permanent residence (PR) under its Skilled Worker, International Graduate (including Express Entry British Columbia (EEBC) option) stream. This stream is designed for overseas graduates who have graduated from a university or college in the province within the previous three years and have a valid job offer from a business in British Columbia.

Invitations were extended to individuals with professional expertise in the province’s in-demand positions. Specifically, these in-demand occupations included:

  • Childcare professionals, who needed a minimum score of 90 to be invited;
  • Construction professionals, who needed a minimum score of 95 to be invited;
  • Healthcare professionals who need a minimum score of 95;
  • Tech professionals who needed a minimum score of 116; and
  • Veterinary care professionals who needed a minimum score of 80.

Inclusion of the EEBC option implies that this is an improved provincial nomination stream. Enhanced streams are integrated with the Express Entry management system, which means that persons in the Express Entry pool may be asked to apply for permanent residency in a province via these streams.

Manitoba

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) invited over 350 applicants to apply.

The MPNP asked 276 persons to apply through the Skilled Worker in Manitoba, Occupation-specific selection stream (part of the Manitoba Work Experience route) who worked in in-demand occupations in the province. Individuals worked in the following National Occupation Classifications (NOC)*:

  • 33102—Nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates;
  • 60020—Retail and wholesale trade managers; and
  • Group 731—Workers in general construction trades.

*The NOC system is Canada’s standardised method to categorise occupations within the country.

The MPNP also welcomed 87 candidates under the Skilled Worker Overseas track. Individuals chosen for this draw had to have a minimum score of 691 and declare that they had been invited by the MPNP through a Strategic Recruitment Initiative.

Of the 363 invites given under these two programs, 81 were extended to candidates who also declared a valid Express Entry profile, demonstrating that they are both upgraded streams.
