Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is a program administered by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) which allows qualified foreign workers with experience in a skilled trade to work in Canada. The program has specific requirements which must be met in order to be eligible for the program. These requirements include having a valid job offer in a skilled trade from a Canadian employer, having at least two years of experience in that trade, and meeting language proficiency requirements. If a candidate meets all of the requirements, they may apply for a permanent residence visa under the FSTP. Once approved, the candidate will be eligible to work and live in Canada as a permanent resident.

Benefits of Federal Skilled Trades Program Canada

  1. Fast Processing Times: The Federal Skilled Trades Program typically processes applications within six months, allowing individuals to receive a response to their application quickly. This can be beneficial to those who need to access a work permit and begin working in Canada sooner rather than later.
  2. Access to Permanent Residency: The program allows successful applicants to become permanent residents of Canada, granting them all the benefits that come with it.
  3. Possibility to Work in Any Province: As a permanent resident, successful applicants are free to work in any Canadian province or territory. This is a great benefit for those who wish to explore the country, or those who need to move to a different province to access employment opportunities.
  4. Access to In-Demand Occupations: The Federal Skilled Trades Program is designed to open the door for individuals who work in occupations that are in-demand in Canada. This is a great opportunity for those who may not be able to find jobs in their home country.
  5. Access to Government Services and Benefits: As a permanent resident, individuals are able to access government services and benefits, such as health care, education, and more.

How does the immigration process work with the Federal Skilled Worker Program?

The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) is a popular Canadian immigration program for those wishing to become permanent residents of Canada. The program is designed to assess potential immigrants based on their education, work experience, language skills, and other factors that contribute to their ability to become economically established in Canada.

The first step in the process is to determine if you are eligible to apply for the FSWP. In order to do this, you must first meet the minimum eligibility requirements. These include having at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience in a skilled occupation within the last 10 years, a Canadian secondary (high school) or post-secondary educational credential, and language proficiency in either English or French.

Once you have determined that you meet the eligibility requirements, you can then apply to the program. You will need to create an Express Entry profile, which is an online application that provides the government with information about your skills, work experience, language ability, and education.

After you have submitted your Express Entry profile, the government will assess your profile and determine whether you meet the criteria to be accepted into the program. If accepted, you will be placed in the Express Entry pool.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how you can pursue immigration to Canada through the FSTP:

  1. Determine Your Eligibility: The first step is to determine if you are eligible to apply for immigration to Canada through the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP). In order to be eligible, you must meet certain criteria, including having a qualifying job offer or certificate from a Canadian province or territory, at least two years of experience in a skilled trade, and a language test score of at least Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5.
  2. Gather Required Documents: Once you have determined your eligibility, it’s time to start gathering the required documents. These documents include proof of language proficiency, proof of education, proof of work experience, and any other documents needed for your particular application.
  3. Submit Your Application: Once you have gathered all of the necessary documents, it’s time to submit your application. You can submit your application online through the Express Entry system.
  4. Receive an Invitation to Apply: If your application is approved, you will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA). This will give you a set amount of time to submit all of the necessary documents and fees.
  5. Submit Your Permanent Residence Application.

Eligibility Criteria for FSTP:

In order to be eligible for the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Have at least two years (2,898 hours total/1,520 hours per year) of full-time work experience in a skilled trade within the five (5) years before applying.
  2. Meet the required language levels in either English or French for each language ability (speaking, reading, writing, and listening).
  3. Have qualifying credentials for their skilled trade from a Canadian educational institution or a provincial or territorial authority.
  4. Meet the job requirements for their skilled trade as set out in the National Occupational Classification (NOC).
  5. Be admissible to Canada.
  6. Have an offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least one year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a provincial or territorial authority.
