What is Federal Skilled Workers Program Canada (FSWP)?

The Federal Skilled Worker’s Program is a program managed under the express entry system. It is also called the 67 Point calculator; the applicant who scores a minimum of 67 out of 100 points on the FSWP eligibility point grid are shortlisted for ITA. It is one of Canada’s prime programs to ascertain immigration.

To be eligible for the FSWP program, the candidate needs to meet the minimum requirements of

• Skilled work experience
• Language ability
• Education

There are also six selection factors for the Federal Skilled Workers program.

1. Language skills

Canada accepts language skills in both English and French language. The maximum score an applicant can get in language skills in English is 28 points based on listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills. There are additional points for those applicants who are proficient in both the languages.

2. Education

Provide an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report for your education outside Canada and offer a degree, diploma, and certificate for assessment. The maximum points allotted for education are 25 points. 

3. Work experience

The minimum work experience required for eligibility is one year in full-time or part-time work equivalent to full-time. In this, the applicant can get a maximum score of 15 points with an experience of 6 years or more.

4. Age

The maximum age points an applicant can get is 12 for applicants between 18 to 35 years; for those 47 or older, there is no point allocation.

5. Employment

With a valid job offer, the candidate will be awarded a maximum of 10 points, and the occupation should be of at least one year in a skilled occupation of O, A, or B

6. Adaptability

If you have any relatives like a brother or sister living in Canada, then you can avail yourself of some extra points for availability.

What are the eligibility requirements for the Federal Skilled Workers program?

To apply through FSWP, the applicant should meet the following requirements –

• The applicant should have a minimum of 12-month experience in a full-time occupation or an equivalent part-time job. Experience to be considered Skilled, the candidate should be working in NOC skill level), A or B
• The language proficiency test should be taken in Either English or French, and the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 7 points needs to be maintained.
• The applicant should have an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) to credit the education attained outside Canada.
• The candidate should have enough settlement fund to support himself and his family in Canada.
• The applicant should have a clean medical and police record.

How long does it take to Process Federal Skilled Workers Program applications?

The application processing time has considerably increased with the pandemic as there has been a backlog of applications. But this is slowly falling back into place as processing time is returning to normal, with seven to eight months of processing time for Federal Skilled Workers program applications.
