IRCC invites 3,200 candidates in category-based Express Entry draw for French language proficiency

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has sent out invitations to apply (ITAs) for the fourth Express Entry lottery this month.

The department granted 3,200 ITAs for French language proficiency through a category-based selection process.

Candidates must have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 420 to be considered.

Today’s draw follows three draws held last week between July 2 and July 5. On July 2, 920 individuals were asked to participate in a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) only draw. Candidates have to have a CRS score of at least 739 to be considered.

The last two drawings were for category-based selections. The first was on July 4, when 1,800 ITAs were awarded to applicants in trade occupations, and the second was on July 5, when 3,750 candidates in healthcare vocations received them.

Overall, this month has been very active for Express Entry drawings. IRCC normally runs drawings every second week, with an average of two to four lotteries each month. In comparison, April was the last month to see four draws, while February was the busiest of the year thus far with six.

French-proficiency drawings are estimated to account for 30% of all ITAs given in category-based selection draws this year. To far, IRCC has awarded 15,600 ITAs to qualifying candidates in this category.

What is Express Entry?

Express Entry is the application management system for IRCC’s three major economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and the Federal Skilled Trades Program. It was established in 2015

to identify immigration candidates who have the highest possibility of integrating into Canada’s labour and economy.

Express Entry programs have varied qualifying requirements, however all candidates are evaluated using the Comprehensive Ranking System. The approach provides numerical scores to candidates based on human capital characteristics such as age, language proficiency, education, job experience, and occupation. These scores are put together to generate an overall CRS score. The better the score, the more likely an applicant is to be awarded an ITA by IRCC in an upcoming Express Entry lottery.
