Ontario and British Columbia invite candidates to apply for nomination in latest PNP draws

Two Canadian provinces have extended invitations to candidates in this week’s round of Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws.

Immigration is a joint responsibility of Canada’s provincial/territorial and federal governments. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) gives a specified number of nominations to each province and territory (excluding Quebec and Nunavut) for the purpose of selecting economic immigrants who are most suited to the local work force and economy.

Being nominated by a province is not equivalent to becoming a permanent resident. However, individuals who file for provincial nomination and are successful will have a better case when applying to IRCC for permanent residence status.

Ontario

The Ontario Immigrant Nominees Program (OINP) invited applicants in three draws over two days this week, totaling 402 invitations.

The first two draws occurred on June 17. One sent invites to 84 individuals in the Employer Job Offer: International Student stream. It was a targeted recruitment strategy for early childhood educators and assistants. They required a minimum of 60 or above to be considered.

The second draw of the day targeted 106 early childhood educators and assistants in the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream. To be eligible for an ITA, these individuals had to score 39 or above.

Finally, on June 20, 212 individuals were chosen from the OINP’s French Speaking Skilled Worker Express Entry stream. The draw was general, which meant that no vocations were targeted, and individuals with scores between 305 and 409 were considered.

British Columbia

On June 18, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) welcomed more than 70 applicants to submit applications for provincial nomination.

Invitations were sent to participants in the program’s Skilled Worker and International Graduate Streams (including those who choose Express Entry B.C.). The province conducted five targeted drawings for individuals in certain vocations.

Those working in technology received the most invites, 35 in total. They need a minimum score of 122 to be considered.

The province additionally welcomed 14 candidates in healthcare professions who scored at least 102.

The 11 invited applicants in construction and 10 in childcare jobs need a minimum score of 93.

Finally, fewer than five candidates in veterinary care occupations with a minimum score of 80 were invited.
