Under the Provincial Nomination Program (PNP), five Canadian provinces have encouraged people to submit for nomination.
Provinces use the PNP to identify economic immigrants who are most likely to integrate successfully into the provincial workforce. Provincial governments identify these candidates by either picking them from the federal Express Entry application pool or accepting applications directly from those who apply to the province.
Because immigration is a shared responsibility of the federal and provincial governments, the PNP can exist. Each year, the federal government allots a certain number of nominations to each province (with the exception of Quebec and Nunavut, who do not have PNPs). Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) hopes to accept 105,550 new permanent residents through the PNP by the end of 2023.
Ontario
On August 30, 772 individuals were invited to apply for the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) Masters Graduate stream.
The draw was general, which meant that no occupation was stated, and contenders needed to have a minimum score of 44.
Candidates must be international graduates with an Ontario master’s degree, have a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) score of 7 in an official language, and have sufficient settlement money to be eligible for this program. They must have also lived in Ontario for at least one of the last two years.
British Columbia
On August 29, British Columbia performed its weekly lottery draw. Over four different draws, the province invited more than 150 candidates from the Skilled Worker and International Graduate programs.
In a targeted draw for IT vocations, the largest draw invited 102 individuals. To be qualified, candidates needed to have a minimum score of 88.
The remaining three draw results were as follows:
· 28 early childhood educators and assistants
· 20 healthcare professionals
· Less than five invitations for other priority occupations
Candidates in each of these draws required a minimum score of 60.
Alberta
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) has announced the results of the August 24 draw.
Through the Family connection and principal occupation in demand stream, the province invited 168 individuals. Candidates must have an immediate family member living in the province, such as a parent, child, or sibling.
All applicants in this stream who are invited are also Express Entry candidates. They required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 302 for this draw.
Manitoba
On August 30, Manitoba held its first region-specific draw of the year. In this draw, 288 individuals from the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)’s Skilled Worker stream were invited to submit for nomination.
Candidates must state in their profile that they are now working in Manitoba and live, or intend to live, in a community other than Winnipeg, the provincial capital. A minimum score of 600 was also required.
Prince Edward Island
On August 31, PEI welcomed 22 candidates through the Labour and Express Entry streams of the PEI PNP. According to the province, the invites were sent to people working in the healthcare, manufacturing, food processing, and construction industries.
Since September 2022, the province has invited 2602 candidates in total, with the Labour and Express Entry streams accounting for 97% of all invitations issued.
