Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, Manitoba, and PEI invite candidates in latest provincial immigration draw results
Candidates have been asked to apply through provincial immigration programs in five Canadian provinces.
Except for Quebec and Nunavut, all provinces and territories have Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP). Provincial governments can use these initiatives to select people who they believe are most equipped to integrate into the provincial economy. A province nomination strengthens a candidate’s case for permanent residency.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) collaborates with provincial governments to manage immigration. Immigration Minister Marc Miller recently met with his provincial counterparts to discuss common interests. These sessions are held twice a year and assist IRCC in learning how to use immigration as an effective instrument to enhance the economic well-being of Canada’s provinces.
The conference on November 18 focused on decreasing duplication across federal-provincial economic class immigration programs, as well as reducing processing times, hurdles, and expediting foreign credential recognition. They also reviewed how governments might collaborate to solve housing, infrastructure, and social service demands, as well as matching work permits with provincial-territorial labour market needs.
Quebec has a separate arrangement with the federal government that provides the province complete control over economic immigration. However, for those who acquire a Quebec Selection Certificate, IRCC still makes the final decision on permanent residence status.
