Three provinces nominate candidates in this week’s PNP results

This week, Ontario, British Columbia, and Manitoba encouraged applicants to submit applications for provincial nomination.

Each Canadian province and territory (with the exception of Quebec and Nunavut) has a local Nominee Program (PNP) that allows them to propose economic immigration applicants who are likely to succeed in the local workforce and economy.

Provinces frequently arrange draws to attract applicants with certain in-demand human capital traits. For example, certain PNP draws encourage people to submit for a nomination based on their employment or if they are an overseas student who graduated in the province.

To be nominated, candidates must first obtain an Expression of Interest (EOI) from the province government to which they applied (or were chosen, as is occasionally the case with Express Entry candidates). The candidates must then seek for a provincial nomination. Those who are successfully nominated will have a considerably better case when applying to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency.

When sending out EOIs, most provinces take into account a candidate’s minimal “score”. This implies that, like Express Entry, they are assigned ratings based on human capital considerations, but these values are derived using a provincial scoring system rather than the federal Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

Ontario

This week, Ontario issued EOIs to applicants in three different draws for the Employer Job Offer: International Student stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).

All drawings took place on March 12. One invited 1,306 individuals with a minimum score of 72 in a general draw.

Another targeted draw for skilled crafts employment attracted 649 individuals. Candidates have to score at least 66 to be considered.

The remaining draw welcomed 684 individuals for specific healthcare and technology occupations. These contenders needed a minimum score of 72.

The province also welcomed 11 individuals under the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker category. This draws targeted applicants for the Economic Mobility Pathways Project.

British Columbia

On March 12, British Columbia also held five targeted occupational draws, inviting over 187 Skilled Worker and International Graduate candidates.

A minimum score of 113 was necessary for the 65 candidates who entered a draw for technical vocations. This was the biggest draw, with the highest minimum score needed.

The province also invited 30 candidates for construction vocations with a minimum score of 80.

Candidates in the last three draws needed a minimum score of 75 to be considered.

  • Healthcare: 38 candidates invited
  • Childcare: 54 candidates invited
  • Veterinary care: Less than five candidates invited

Manitoba

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program held its most recent Expression of Interest draw on March 8, inviting 104 candidates.

Candidates were considered for the Skilled Worker in Manitoba stream and required a minimum score of 614.

The province claims that 20 EOIs were issued to people who already had a valid Express Entry profile.
