IRCC held the Twelfth Express Entry draw of 2023 and issued another 589 invitations in a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) specific draw.
In the latest draw held on May 10, candidates with a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of at least 691 were invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada.
This draw was specific to the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which means that candidates who were already in the Express Entry pool and had received a nomination from a Canadian province were eligible for the draw. This was the fourth Provincial Nominee Program-specific draw in 2023, and the previous one took place on March 1 and invited 667 candidates. Since then, all draws have included candidates from all Express Entry programs.
In comparison to the recent Provincial Nominee Program-specific draws, the previous draws in April saw a larger number of candidates being invited. On April 26, 3,500 candidates with CRS scores of 483 were invited to apply for permanent residence, while on April 12, another 3,500 candidates with CRS scores of 486 were invited. However, these numbers were lower than the draws held in March, when IRCC invited more than 21,000 candidates over four consecutive draws, three of which invited 7,000 candidates.
March’s draws were the second highest in the history of the Express Entry program, with the highest number of candidates being invited in February 2021, when 27,332 candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) received an invitation to apply (ITA).
Canada Immigration Express Entry Draws :-
The draws held in April marked a return to a more normal draw schedule, with draws typically taking place every second Wednesday until late 2022 and throughout March 2023. However, in March, draws occurred weekly instead. Additionally, the March and April draws saw a return to all-program draws, which was not the case in January and February of 2023, when most draws were program-specific for the Provincial Nominee Program. On February 2, 2023, IRCC held the first-ever program-specific draw for the Federal Skilled Workers Program.

How does Express Entry Program work? The applicant needs to carry out the three core steps –
The applicant should enter the Express Entry pool by creating a profile. A profile needs to have the educational credential assessment and Language score.
After you are in the Express Entry pool, wait for the express entry draw to announce the results. On meeting the CRS score requirement, you will receive an ITA from the IRCC.
After receiving the ITA, the applicant will have around 60 days to submit the complete application along with the documents.
The program has three sub-streams, and the applicant can apply through any of the sub-streams.
- Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP)
- Federal Skilled Traders Program (FSTP)
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
FSWP is for skilled workers who have never lived in Canada before, while FSTP is for tradespersons with experience in listed occupations, and CEC is for foreign workers with Canadian work experience.
