Yukon to Introduce Intake System for Yukon Nominee Program Applications in 2025

The Government of Yukon is transitioning to an intake-based system for applications to the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP).

With this new approach, the YNP will accept a limited number of applications per intake. Once the intake cap is reached, the program will stop accepting applications until the next intake cycle. The first intake for 2025 will open on January 29, with a maximum of 125 applications being accepted for nominations to the YNP.

The YNP plans to conduct future intakes on a quarterly basis, though the exact schedule for these intakes has not yet been finalized. The frequency and size of these intakes will be adjusted based on the number of nominations allocated to Yukon by the Canadian federal government. The territory has requested an increase in the nomination allocation for 2025.

Reason for the Change

Previously, the YNP did not have fixed intake periods or caps, and applications were accepted year-round. However, in 2024, the number of applications to the YNP surged significantly, surpassing the territory’s available nominations. In response, the program temporarily halted accepting applications from employers in Whitehorse, the capital and largest city of the territory.

The Yukon government anticipates that the new intake process for 2025 will help manage applications more effectively throughout the year.

About the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP)

The Yukon Nominee Program is the primary initiative for issuing territorial nominations, which enable foreign nationals to apply for Canadian permanent residence. The YNP is employer-driven, focusing on addressing labor market needs. To apply for a nomination under the program, a foreign national and their employer must submit the application together. If successful, the foreign national will receive a nomination from Yukon, which allows them to apply to the Canadian federal government for permanent residency.
